The Underrated Profession
Sitting in a class of PGP program participants, where half the people are completely tuned out of the class, a mobile is ringing somewhere, some like me are working/chatting on laptaops and the rest are sleeping, i just wonder why is this that a whole class behaves like this towards a professor. What can be the reason? Is there no one in the entire class who is interested in OR? Does the teacher not know anything? No, none of them are true...i have seen the same happening in the classes by most accomplished professors.
So great knowledge doesnt make a good teacher. A researcher or a scientist is not a good teacher.
Ofcourse knowlege is important. I think the students very intutively understand the Knowlege level of a teacher in first few classes only. And a teacher is instantly rejected if he underperforms.
What else, I think another reason is respect of students, a teacher who cannot appreciate the intellect of his students will be instantly rejected by the students. Treating the students with respect and valuing their opinion goes a long way.
Third factor i think is connecting with students, how can a teacher connect with students to make them comfortable enough to come up with their problems, have a healthy interaction and still maintain the respect and authority of a teacher.
Forth, is again, students are not foolish, they do not want to learn stuff that they do not think is relevant/ useful to them. There is well, little a teacher can do as the course is not designed by them..but how the subject is presented goes a long way in sustaining student interest.
Lastly it is a major myth that quite, introvert, shy, innocent and studious kind of people make good teachers. A teacher has to be as world-smart as his students, after all he has to match his wits with them and not only for teaching them but also managing them and understanding their tricks.
In the end, i think that teaching is the most underrated profession here. Teaching is very difficult and being a good teacher demands so much from an individual. There are hardly any good teachers nowadays, partly because teachers have lost value in society and partly because of the low compensations.
Anyway the class is almost over and happy that the torture is over :|

Failure
I have 2-3 big defeats and failures to my credit. The second one after this is my failure to qualify in IIT. I think that I really begin to loose focus towards the end of the journey, I become casual, and when the time was there to put that extra effort, I wasted it.
Its like that quote " On the plains of hesitation lie the blackened bones of countless millions who, at the dawn of victory, sat down to rest... and resting, died." (googled up for the exact thing).
Oh, and there is another, I always fail in love, i failed every time i tried before, and now this one, of which i was sure that its meant to be, is also going. I am giving last big fight for it, to save it, to not fail this time.

Tragedy
Tragedy is not to find anyone to love.
Do i expect a lot in people??
Should one compromise in life??
But I have also read
"If you expect nothing but the very best,
you very often get it."
How?? When??

Nishabd
In an open poll it was asked if Indian society is ready to accept concepts like this, and 95 percent people voted for a big NO.
Society in India has always been double standard. People are ready to do things, almost everything that we condemn about the west is prevalent in India, respected people will have extramarital affairs, people will have affairs with their relatives, cases of family members exploiting their own kids are also not uncommon, even the problems of dowry which are not in the west are rampant here. But people choose to be mum about it all in India. It is like if they ignore and turn a blind eye towards this, these issues will cease to exist. I am not advocating Unspoken Relationships like this nor am I saying that every 60 year old have an affair with 18 year old, all I want to say is that at least be truthful to ourself and accepts the facts about ourself. Or are we so embarrassed and shameful of what lies beneath our holier than tho image that we are not even ready to look and accept it, is self introspection so painful to us??
Vehemently opposing the idea only proves that we do not have a clear conscious.

Whats up??
Is the world we are living in all unreal, this is all a virtual world we are living in, the real India is that we hear about in the news, shudder at its grotesqueness and then forget about it thinking that its another world, another age.
And then there is this helplessness of not being able to do anything to change these circumstances. Whenever I try to consider my options, I am never able to reach any practical, feasible solution to this. What can I do, at the least donate money, at max leave my job and join some organization. But will any of these and all the other options lying between them lead to any change in the present circumstances, will we ever be able to say that the society is now safe for all especially young vulnerable children and defenseless women. And most important is how can we help??
Punishment-to whom?
No one is raising voice against this outright mockery of law.
When we look at the problem like this, we realize that the system is not fair, but maybe there can be a different solution to the problem.
There are people who commit crimes under pressure, first time offenders, people who have been forced to do those crimes under unavoidable circumstances, for excitement. These people who are not basically criminals but have done some wrong deeds due to misguidance or circumstances should be given a chance for a better life. Condition in jails is horrible and the environment they provide is far from conducive to the betterment of people. People come out of jails hardened and bitter. Convicts are generally left unproductive, as their talent and skills are all wasted and they usually work as unskilled or semi-skilled laborers. Why should the state feed the people who have been convicted and why should their families be left to fend for themselves?? The real punishment is given to the accused families who have to look after themselves
One thing that I would like to say is that I am NOT defending those criminals for whom crimes are a way of life, who are not sorry for what they have done or those whose mentality justifies the crimes that they have committed.
If these conditions have to continue, then maybe it is better not to convict them at all. Why is there no probation system in India, one in which people who commit such crimes can be put in probation houses where they are free to go out in the day, earn for themselves and their families, lead a fairly normal life, but report back to the place in the evening; and then if they commit the crime again, then maybe they can be put through a difficult punishment. In the end, the purpose is to make people realize their mistakes and make them better human beings.
Even in Dutt’s case, he was not fully aware of the consequences or the severity of his actions. Sanjay has already served 18 months in jail and its highly unlikely that he will repeat his acts again, and considering the fact that so much money is invested in his films, maybe he could also be left out on probation, but of course heavy fine should be imposed on him. That way the state can get funds to put in better causes, and Sanjay will also not be rendered unproductive.
Each one of us, at least most of the people are against such atrocities against anyone, but then whatever fire we have inside us, it gets dissipated, instead of channelizing it, giving it a direction we let it die from our hearts, the flicker of light, and anger we feel does not get utilized. After all these issues can never be resolved by one person's commitment, we need the masses, and we need its total dedication at all times, it ha sto become a way of life and not just a part of life.
Indian Scenario
OLD VERSION...
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.
MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house. Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter. Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper. The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance). Opposition MP's stage a walkout.Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.
Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.
Arjun Singh makes Special Reservation for Grass Hopper in educational Institutions & in Govt Services.
The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.
Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice'. CPM calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden' Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.
Many years later...The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley.100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India...
ps: Deepa Meheta's Water got nominated for Oscars as an entry from Canada. Sounds familiar to the above one no?? And now the news-channel are saying how proud India is at this achievement. Who gave them the right to claim even a speck of Deepa's effort?

I am starting with my stint with blogging very late in life..in fact i, being a small town girl from UP, who used internet for the first time in her life when she was 20, who studied in a college that gave her a degree without teaching her a thing, cant even complain..and i must admit that my curiosity in this matter is limited to only what is required. Then also, internet was a scarce commodity to be used with utmost care and respect and each minute I got with it was precious.
Heck, but why am I giving excuses for not blogging till now, as if the whole wide world was waiting open armed for me to come and enlighten it with my rantings.
Anyways, now that I am here, I can start with something about myself...but there is nothing much to it and anyways you all will come to know about my uneventful, boring life in the time to come... So should I start with ummm.....relations (luuvvee, friendship (watever the hell that is)) but they are the most hackneyed subjects in the universe....Wat else?? Social issues..hmm that would be good..but here I have a confession, actually two confessions to make..first, though I feel strongly about all injustice going around in the society and more than ready to fight against it..I have not kept up with current news (was busy u c.... graduating from college...finding a job thereafter...that too wen i graduated out of the best college from UP and then devoting all my energies to find means of surviving without working in the job..though I had quite an experience in it, as all that i had learnt in my college was how to pass with out studying, but still things were a bit tough in job...you see, no re-exam, back paper etc na..) and the second, I have started blogging after reading lots of feminist blogs :-) , so though, I can write, I wont just now, coz I fear I might take teeny-weeny inspiration from those and fealty as I am, I want to be original..don't want to plagiarize in my first ever bl0g-post, huh uh..may be not first, but hitherto posts were quite redundant in face of plans i now have :D....(actually, they happen to be in my company's blog..and that is really not a great place to post about your feelings and thoughts)
What say, anyways, the length of this article is decent enough to be posted as a blog, so maybe I can decide the actual theme later..
Hope you got a fair idea about me , I am careless, master at procrastination, expert at getting through without putting in efforts, irritating, stupid and someone who can rattle mindlessly on and on..
And, maybe, if you still haven't noticed, I am angry at myself just now (very much, though not usually) because of all the things mentioned above and sometimes I want to kill myself due to these.
